Aaron McGlone and Beau Moore homered to keep the Wildcats in the game but the UK baseball team (18-25) left ten men on base and committed four errors, losing to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, 7-5, in damp and messy conditions at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

Western Kentucky (24-20) scored three runs in the first inning on a single, double, and home run by the first three batters and took the lead, 3-0. But UK responded, manufacturing one run in the first and two in the second on Moores sixth home run of the season to tie the game at three-all.

The Hilltoppers answered in the fourth inning, driving in two runs on two singles, an error and a wild pitch by UK starter Jon Hooker. The Wildcats chipped away at the lead, adding one run in the fifth on McGlones 13th home run of the season, and another run in the eighth to tie the game for a second time at 5-5.

The ninth inning saw UK meltdown as reliever Austin Madison hit right fielder Chris Yeo with a pitch to begin the inning. Reliever Jason Chaney promptly gave up three consecutive hits to the three batters he faced. Omar Henry worked his way out of trouble to end the inning, but WKU was in the lead, 7-5.

A Robert Newton single in the bottom of the ninth kept the Cats hopes alive, but no runs crossed the plate as UK lost the game to WKU, 7-5.

Kentucky continues non-conference play on Wednesday, April 28, traveling to Louisville to play the Cardinals for the second time this season. Louisville won the first meeting, 10-8, in 11 innings at Cliff Hagan Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
