LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team will wrap up its regular season on Saturday, Nov. 14, when they play host to the No. 5 Florida Gators at UK’s Memorial Coliseum at 7 p.m.
Saturday will also mark the final home match for two UK seniors – middle blocker Jenny Muzzey and outside hitter LaTanya Webb – who have combined for over 1900 kills during their careers. Muzzey ranks second on UK’s career block assists list with 370, while Webb ranks sixth on the career kills list with 1156.
The Wildcats (15-12, 6-7 Southeastern Conference) hope to end a season-high five game skid when they face Florida (25-2, 13-0 SEC) this weekend. The Gators hold a 15-9 series edge over UK and will look for the season sweep after defeating the Cats, 3-0, earlier this year in Gainesville.
The two squads could potentially meet again next week in the second round of the SEC Tournament in Fayetteville, Ark. UK is currently the No. 5 seed in the SEC Eastern Division while undefeated UF is the No. 1 seed. The significance of the order of finish lies in potential matchups in the conference tournament. The No. 5 seed from the East will take on the No. 4 seed from the West, with the winner of that match facing Florida in the second round.
“It’s a good test for us to go up against Florida, who is leading the SEC,” UK coach Jona Braden said. “I think that the combination of senior night and ending the 1998 season will make this a special night.”
Admission to Saturday night’s match is $5 for adults and $2 for children. UK students with valid identification receive free admission to all matches.
