LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s volleyball team has signed April Barnhorst of Greenwood, Ind., to a national letter-of-intent, Coach Jona Braden announced Friday. Barnhorst, who was considering playing collegiate basketball, becomes the third freshman to join the 1998 Wildcats, Braden’s first UK team.
Barnhorst, a 6-1 middle blocker, lettered for four years at Center Grove High School and was a team captain during her senior campaign. She was chosen as the 1998 Outstanding Senior Athlete and was named to the Indiana South All-Star Team that same year. In 1997, Barnhorst was named Most Valuable Player and was a key member of the semi-state finalist team that posted a record of 30-9.
“April will add depth to the middle and right side with her attacking and blocking skills,” Braden said. “She is a strong front-court player with an incredible work ethic. Her competitive spirit will add so much to the overall growth of our team.”
