LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky will play host to the UK Men’s Tennis Fall Invitational Friday, Oct. 16, through Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center on the UK campus. The Wildcats are coming off impressive showings at recent fall tournaments.
Freshman Johan Grundtiz won the MTSU Fall Classic singles title, freshman Tomaz Smid won the singles title at the Louisville Fall Classic, and junior Carlos Drada defeated the No. 3 player in the nation, James Blake of Harvard, at UK,s Charles Fluitt Classic.
“We’re playing really well right now for such a young team,” UK coach Dennis Emery said. “We feel like we’re gaining a lot of momentum and we hope to continue that this weekend.”
In addition to the Wildcats, teams from Purdue, Michigan, Morehead State, Miami (Ohio), Abilene Christian, Ohio State, Middle Tennessee State, Indiana State, UT-Chattanooga and Toledo will all be competing.
“The format allows for everyone to play at least three or four matches, which is good because in the fall, you want your team to get as much experience as possible.”
Play begins each day at 10 a.m. at the Boone Center.
