LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team resumes Southeastern Conference play against South Carolina and Florida at the UK Soccer Complex this weekend. The Wildcats face South Carolina on Friday at 7 p.m. and Florida on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
The Cats are led by All-SEC candidate Carrie Staber, who has three goals and an assist on the season. As a team, UK has outscored its opponents seven goals to four, and has outshot them 83 to 50. Senior goalkeeper Carrie Kuhnell has a goals-against-average of only 0.60 while recording two shutouts.
The Cats will face South Carolina without junior forward Jen McMaster, who received a red card in UK’s last match against Tulsa.
South Carolina (4-1-1, 1-1-0 SEC) comes into the match ranked third in the SEC East. Last week, the Gamecocks shut out Wofford, 2-0. USC is led by junior forward Jennie Ondo’s five goals on the season.
The Wildcats face another tough opponent in nationally ranked Florida. The No. 5 Gators are undefeated with a 6-0-0 record, 2-0-0 in the SEC, and come off a 5-2 victory over Hartford on Sept. 19. The Gators are led by senior forward Danielle Fotopoulos’ six goals and three assists, while freshman forward Abby Wambach has chipped in four goals and three assists.
Sunday’s game is part of a doubleheader. After the UK-Florida match, the UK men’s soccer team will take on Vanderbilt at 3 p.m.
This weekend is Youth Soccer Weekend at the UK Soccer Complex. Any child wearing his or her soccer uniform will receive free admission. Sunday is Family Day. Any family of four or more will get in for $10. Also, the first 50 UK students in attendance both Friday and Sunday will receive free UK Soccer t-shirts.
