The University of Kentucky men’s golf team will tee off its season this weekend, as the Wildcats travel to Iowa City, Iowa, and Finkbine Golf Course for the Intercollegiate Jack Moyers Cup.

The 12-team tournament may be the first of the season for the Cats, but Coach Steve Smitha has high hopes.

“This is the best team we’ve had since I’ve been at Kentucky,” Smitha said.

“These guys are ready to play.”

The Wildcats will be led by junior Wes Furnish, who posted a team-low scoring average of 74.48 in 10 events last season to go along with three top-10 finishes.

“Wes was our best and most consistent golfer last season,” Smitha said, “I think he’ll have a big year.”

The 54-hole event begins with 36 holes on Saturday, with the remaining 18 to be played on Sunday.
