Rachel Lester of Fayetteville, Ga., and Kelly Anders of Springfield, Ill.,have signed national letters-of-intent to play golf at the University ofKentucky, women’s golf coach Bettie Lou Evans has announced.
Lester, a seniorat the Woodward Academy in College Park, Ga., finished in the top 10 in twonational tournaments and in three high school tournaments. During the summer of’98, Lester was one of five girls from Georgia who qualified for the U.S. JuniorGirls’ Tournament. She also won the Georgia State Maxfli PGA qualifier by fourstrokes. “We consider ourselves very privileged to have signed an outstandingyoung golfer from Georgia. Rachel’s willingness to work hard on her game and hercompetitive spirit will make her an outstanding college player. We are excited tohave her on our team,” Coach Evans said.
Anders, a senior at SacredHeart-Griffin High School in Springfield, Ill., had 11 championships during herhigh school career, which include Illinois High School Sectional and RegionalChampion for both 1997 and 1998. She was the state runner-up in 1998. During thispast summer, Anders collected nine top-10 finishes and was selected as firstalternate for the U.S. Girls Junior Qualifier.
“We are very excited that Kelly chose the University of Kentucky to playher collegiate golf. We are convinced that she will be an immediate asset to ourwomen’s golf program and expect her to be an impact player before her career isover,” Coach Evans said.
