LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 26th-ranked University of Kentucky men’s tennis team edged out a 4-3 victory over No. 24 Notre Dame on Tuesday. Kentucky (3-0) was down 1-0 after doubles play, as the Fighting Irish (3-2) picked up wins at the No.1 and No. 2 spots. After five singles matches, the overall score was tied 3-3. But UK’s Gustav Pousette won the clinching match at No. 6 singles as he defeated Aaron Talarico, 7-5, 6-0, to give the Cats the victory.

UK’s Carlos Drada faced the nation’s No. 3 singles player in Ryan Sachire at the No. 1 position. Drada won the first set, but Sachire came back to win the match, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Johan Hesoun picked up a big win for the Cats as he outlasted NDs Matt Daly, 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 at No. 3. Freshmen Tomas Smid and Johan Grunditz both won in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

The Cats next see action when they travel to face Harvard on Saturday and Tulsa on Sunday. Both matches take place in Boston, Mass.
