LEXINGTON, Ky. – Two members of the University of Kentucky track and field team have qualified to represent the United States in the World Junior Track and Field Championships in Annecy, France, July 28 to August 2. Lutisha Shittu qualified to represent the USA during competition in Edwardsville, Ill. last weekend. The sophomore will compete in the 100-meter hurdles. Shittu finished first in the qualifying round with a time of 13.32.
Another sophomore, Ola Sesay, will contend in the triple jump. Although she finished 11th last weekend with a mark of 38,08.25, the All-American still qualified for the USA team. The top 10 finishers had no athletes who had achieved the world championship qualifying standards.
Several other UK athletes participated in last weekend’s competition. Valerie Williams finished seventh in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 39,10.75. Three Wildcats finished in the top 15 in the women’s long jump. Along with Sesay’s fourth place finish, Shevon Threats placed eighth with a mark of 19,04.75 and Valerie Williams placed 15th in the event with a mark of 18,02.25. From the men’s team, Christopher Daniel competed in the pole vault but did not place.
