The 11th-ranked University of Kentucky men’s tennis team fell to No. 3 Georgia 5-2, in a dual team match at the Hilary J. Boone Indoor Tennis Center Saturday.

This intense SEC competition was lead by the No. 1 slot of UK’s Cedric Kauffmann, ranked third in the nation, who fell to Georgia’s John Roddick in a three-set match 5-7, 7-6, 6-3. UK’s Dan Spaner defeated Georgia’s Michael Lang 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 6 spot. In doubles competition, UK’s Kauffmann/Spaner defeated Georgia’s Carlson/Zaher 8-4. UK sophomore Carlos Drada, ranked 51st in the country, and newcomer Edo Bawono clinched the doubles point by beating Georgia’s Pitts/Hemeda 8-6.

In last year’s dual match meeting, Kentucky upset Georgia, 4-3. The Wildcats will see action next week when they compete in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships held at the Louisville Tennis Club. The tournament, hosted by the University of Kentucky, brings together 16 of the best teams in the country to determine the ITA national indoor champion. This will be the 14th straight year the tournament will be hosted by UK and played in Louisville. UK will play against No. 8 Duke on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m.
