First baseman Aaron McGlone hit two home runs and freshman Aaron Wilsongot his first collegiate win as the Kentucky Wildcats (11-17) avenged lastweek’s loss to Eastern Kentucky (20-13), beating the Colonels in Lexington,8-3.
EKU scored first, manufacturing a run in the first inning to jump out toan early 1-0 lead. The Wildcats’ bats remained hitless until the thirdinning when Will Crumbaugh opened the inning with a single and Kyle Hookerhad an infield single to put men on first and second with no outs. McGlonethen homered to give UK the lead, 3-1.
The Colonels battled back, scoring one run in the fifth inning, but couldnot contain UK as the Wildcats added three runs to their lead in the bottomof the inning. Crumbaugh led off the fifth with a single and advanced tosecond on a Hooker sacrifice bunt. Andy Green singled to drive in Crumbaughand then scored on McGlone’s second home run of the game, a three run blastover the right-center field wall.
Kentucky gave up one run in the eighth inning, but EKU never regained thelead, losing to the Wildcats, 8-3.
Wilson had his second consecutive impressive outing, pitching acareer-high 7.2 innings and giving up only two earned runs. McGlone has hitthree home runs in the past two games, but John Wilson’s 15-game hittingstreak was snapped, as the catcher was 0-for-3 with a walk.
The Wildcats will travel to Athens, Ohio, on Wednesday, April 7, to facethe Bobcats of Ohio University. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
