LEXINGTON, Ky. –

Freshmen Report: A total of 28 players, 24 scholarship freshmen and four new walk-ons, reported to the University of Kentucky campus Sunday afternoon. A 29th player, wide receiver Kendrick Shanklin, was expected to arrive Sunday night. Shanklin’s plane flights from Baton Rouge, La., were delayed.

“We’re glad to get the freshmen here,” Coach Hal Mumme said. “They look like they’re in good shape and we’re looking forward to getting them on the field.”

On Sunday, the players checked in their dormitory rooms, picked up equipment, and underwent physical examinations. Orientation, academics, and compliance meetings are scheduled for Monday. The freshmen practice Tuesday at 10 a.m. and Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The four new walk-ons include:

Freshman Schedule:

Monday: Orientation, academics, compliance meetings; no practice
Tuesday: Practice, 10 a.m.
Wednesday: Practice, 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Veterans Report Wednesday: The veteran players return to campus on Wednesday, August 12. They will begin orientation activities – checking out equipment, physicals, etc.

Team Practices Begin Friday: The first full team practices will be Friday and Saturday, August 14-15, at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Practices will be at the Nutter Training Center. In case of bad weather, practices could be moved into the Nutter Field House.

Fans’ Day Slated for Sunday, August 16: The annual UK Football Fans’ Day will be Sunday, August 16, at Commonwealth Stadium. Gates will open at 2 p.m. There will be children’s activities, such as field goal kicking, obstacle course, etc., on the field from 2-3 p.m. Players and coaches will be available for autographs and photos from 3-4 p.m. Hot dogs and Coca-Cola will be given away to the first 3,000 fans. Posters and schedule cards also will be given away. In addition, the official UK football media guide will be on sale for $10.
