LEXINGTON, Kty. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team hopes to record itsthird straight conference win when it faces Arkansas on Sunday, Jan. 31 at3 p.m. in Fayetteville’s Bud Walton Arena.
The Cats (14-6, 4-4 Southeastern Conference) have never won inFayetteville, Ark., and haven’t beaten the Lady Razorbacks since winning69-65 on Jan. 28, 1995 in Lexington. UK hopes to break that streak aftercapturing a win over No. 18 Alabama and Florida last week.
“There is no doubt we have gained confidence in our game with those two bigwins,” UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. “We must continue to play gooddefense and smart basketball in order to keep winning and rising in thisconference.”
With 14 wins this season, the Cats have charted the most wins in CoachMattox’s four-year stint and have equaled the most wins since the 1994-95season when UK finished 14-14.
Junior guard Tiffany Wait leads four Wildcats in double figure scoring thisseason. Wait averages 13.1 points per game while sophomore guard LauraMeadows averages 12.1 ppg. Senior forward Jaye Barnes and junior pointguard Erica Jackson follow with 11.7 and 11.0 points per game.
Arkansas, who made history last season by becoming the first unrankedwomen’s basketball team to reach the Final Four, is posting a 12-9 overallrecord and 2-5 in the SEC. The Lady ‘Backs are coming off a loss 60-81loss to Mississippi State on Thursday and are looking to record theirfourth straight win over the Cats. Coach Gary Blair, who has never had alosing season in women’s athletics on any level, is in his sixth seasonwith the Lady Razorbacks.
