LEXINGTON, Ky.-The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team defeated Ohio University 3-1 on Sunday at the UK Soccer Complex for its first victory of the season.

All-SEC candidate Carrie Staber opened the scoring for the Cats in the 21st minute, volleying a shot over OU goalie Vanessa Dennis to give UK a 1-0 lead. Then in the 65th minute, Ohio’s Erin McCoy accidentally put an own-goal between the OU goalposts, putting the Cats up 2-0. Four minutes later, Jen McMaster scored off a Staber cross to widen the margin to 3-0. The Bobcats finally found the net with 12 minutes remaining on a header by Mindy Boggs to close out the scoring.

The Wildcats (1-0-1) face their first Southeastern Conference opponent on Friday, Sept. 11, when they take on Alabama at the UK Soccer Complex at 7p.m.
