LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team moved their record to 15-12 on Wednesday night, extending their season-high losing streak to five matches, when they fell to the Louisville Cardinals in three games, 8-15, 7-15, 5-15.
The Wildcats and Cardinals battled point for point in the game one. UK’s Stephenie Taylor led the Cats in the first set, recording eight kills and an .875 hitting percentage. The Cards’ offense prevailed, as they shot a team hitting percentage of .298 and took the first game, 15-8. UK continued to battle in games two and three, but a pair of 9-0 runs by UL proved to be too much for the Cats to overcome and the Cardinals took the match in three games.
Kentucky (15-12, 7-6 SEC) was led by senior LaTanya Webb with 15 kills on the night. Sophomore Stephenie Taylor tied a career-high for kills with 12, along with a .364 hitting percentage in the loss.
The 24th ranked Cardinals (21-4, 13-2 Conference USA) were led by Marina Sinichenko, who notched 18 kills, six digs and a .374 hitting percentage against the Wildcats. Sonya Gubaidulina had a solid performance for the Cardinals, racking up 11 kills, four digs and a .267 hitting percentage on the night.
The Wildcats wrap up their regular season on Saturday, Nov. 14, when they play host to the No. 6 Florida Gators. The match will mark the final home game for seniors Jenny Muzzey and LaTanya Webb, who will be honored in pre-game ceremonies. The Cats and Gators will take the floor at 7 p.m. in UK’s Memorial Coliseum. Admission to Kentucky matches is $5 for adults and $2 for children. UK students with valid identification receive free admission.
