The University of Kentucky volleyball team (10-5, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) fell to in-state rival and No. 23 ranked Louisville (10-2) Wednesday in three games 15-7, 15-3, 15-11.
The Wildcats struggled early as the Cardinals started both the first and second games with a 10-0 run. Starting setter Terri Crabb went down with a knee injury in the opening game and did not return. UK battled back in a close game three, but the effort was not enough as the Cards took the final game 15-11.
Kentucky was led by junior Katie Eiserman with 16 kills and 10 digs. The Illinois native also posted a .281 hitting percentage in the match. Senior outside hitter LaTanya Webb also had a big night offensively for the Cats, notching 15 kills against the Cardinals.
“Our team fought hard against Louisville,” UK coach Jona Braden said. “Louisville is a solid team and they were a great challenge for us. This match will help us grow as a team, as we get ready for more SEC play this weekend.”
Louisville was led by sophomore outside hitter Kelly McClain with a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs with a .400 hitting percentage. Junior Marina Sinicheko also had a solid performance with 11 kills and eight digs in the winning effort.
Kentucky returns to action on Friday, Oct. 2, when it takes on SEC foe Mississippi State in UK’s Memorial Coliseum at 7 p.m.
