LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky, the nation’s eighth ranked team, fell to No. 3 Alabama 193.750 to 195.575 Friday in Memorial Coliseum.

Kentucky’s Misty Marinik led the GymKats and the meet in the all around, scoring a 39.100, tying her personal best record that was set at the 1996 SEC Championships her freshman year. Marinik, who anchored the uneven bars line-up, improved her personal best with a stellar 9.9 performance. Freshman Ashley Burkholder scored a 38.750 in the all around competition with an overall first place finish on the floor scoring a 9.875. Sophomore Kristen Hoeferlin put in a solid performance on vault with a score of 9.725. Following the vault performance, Hoeferlin injured her left elbow during her floor routine.

The GymKats are nationally ranked fifth on the floor, eleventh on the balance beam, 22nd on the uneven bars and seventh on vault. This was the last home meet of the season for the GymKats and the seniors on the team: Beth Cluxton, Whitney Ellis and Captain Jennie Maxwell. The GymKats will see action next at the Nebraska Invitational on Feb. 28 where they will compete against Michigan State, Rhode Island and Nebraska.
