LEXINGTON, Ky.- The Kentucky softball team posted three runs in the fourth inning en route to a 4-3 win over Dayton in the second game of a doubleheader at the UK Softball Stadium on Tuesday.

Dayton (1-1) got on the board first, scoring in the top of the second innning to take an early 1-0 lead. But UK answered in the bottom half of the frame, as catcher Sarah Snider doubled in Susan Moore to even the score at 1-1.

UK (6-11) took the lead for good in the fourth inning, scoring three runs for a 4-1 lead. Senior Lorie Horner blasted a shot to left-center field and reached third when the Dayton left and center fielders collided with each other. Moore followed with a single to score Horner, and then moved to second on a Crystal Grace single. Snider reached on a fielder’s choice, but Moore scored and Grace moved to third when the Dayton shortstop threw the ball away. Grace then added UK’s third run, scoring on a Leslie Kwiatkowski single.

Dayton tried to come back, posting a run in the fifth and seventh innings, but the Wildcats hung on for the 4-3 win. UK was not as fortunate in the second game of the doubleheader, dropping a 5-4 decision to the Flyers in eight innings. Dayton broke open a 3-3 tie with a two-run home run in the top of the eighth to take a 5-3 lead. The Wildcats tried to answer in the bottom of the inning, but could only manage one run as the Flyers claimed a 5-4 victory. Freshman Leslie Kwiatkowski led UK at the plate, going 4-for-8 with two runs scored and an RBI. Keary Camunas picked up UK’s Game 2 win with seven strikeouts, while Horner took UK’s loss, despite nine strikeouts.
