LEXINGTON, Kty. – The University of Kentucky softball team split a doubleheader againstArkansas on Wednesday evening at the UK Softball Complex.

UK (22-39, 5-17 SEC) could not manufacture any offense in the first gameand fell to the visiting Razorbacks, 2-0. Arkansas (38-27, 13-13) scoredboth runs in the third inning. Tammy Kincaid struck out five Wildcats en route to her 17th victory of theseason for Arkansas. Wildcat pitcher Keary Camunas took the loss and movedto 12-18 on the season.

In the second game, the Wildcats fell behind 1-0 in the top of the fourthinning as Arkansas pinch runner Andy Wharton scored on a throwing error byUK catcher Sandi Dengler.

UK answered the Razorbacks in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Catsstruck for three runs thanks to a piece of clutch hitting by sophomoreLeslie Kwiatkowski.

Kentucky designated player Beth Fogle led off the inning for the Wildcatswith a single and then stole second, her 33rd stolen base of the season.Jennifer Howland singled to advance Fogle to third. Kwiatkowski hit atriple to right center, scoring both Fogle and Howland. Freshman Angie DalPozzo grounded out to short as Kwiatkowski scored to give UK a 3-1 lead.The Wildcats added an insurance-run in the bottom of the sixth inning whenTiffany Kruse singled to left field, scoring Howland from third base andgiving UK a 4-1 lead.

Arkansas scored one run in the top of the seventh, but UK held on for a 4-2victory. The win snapped a 10-game losing streak for the Cats.Camunas picked up the win, improving her record to 13-18. Rachel Talleytook the loss for Arkansas, falling to 14-11 on the season.

Kwiatkowski and Howland led UK at the plate as they combined for four hits,two RBI, and three runs scored in the game.

UK returns to action on Sunday, May 2, playing host to No. 7 LSU Tigers inthe Wildcats’ final home game of the season. The doubleheader is scheduledto begin at 11 a.m.
