The University of Kentucky men’s tennis team smashed SEC competitor Vanderbilt, 6-1, Wednesday at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. The Wildcats (15-7, 3-4) won the doubles point over Vanderbilt (8-8, 1-6) with wins by UK’s Marcus Fluitt and Johan Hesoun, 8-6, and UK’s Carlos Drada and Edo Bawono, 8-4. The match at No. 2 was suspended due to Kentucky winning the point at the No. 1 and 3 spots. In singles action, UK blew out all but one match out of six. Senior Cedric Kauffmann defeated Vandy’s Kyle Porter 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles spot. Eighth-ranked Kauffmann, in his third straight win, knocked off seventh-ranked Mississippi’s Sebastien DeChaunac 7-6, 5-7, 6-3 Monday in Oxford, Miss. Other victorious Wildcats include Carlos Drada, Johan Hesoun, Dan Spaner and Edo Bawono.
The Wildcats will play next at Florida on April 5. Kentucky’s next home match will be one week from today against Tennessee on April 8 at 4:30 p.m.
