BOCA RATON, Fla. – An unusual game for Kentucky (0-3), featuring threeejections, ended in UK’s third loss to FAU 19-6.
Junior Aaron McGlone gave the Cats the early lead with a sacrifice fly inthe first that scored junior Andy Green from third base. But, the Owlsanswered back with a lead-off solo home run by Ryan Withey to tie the game1-1 in the first. FAU got two more unearned runs in the bottom of the thirdto take the lead 3-1.
The Wildcats fought back in the fourth, pulling within one, 3-2, onsophomore John Wilson’s solo home run. FAU broke away in the fourth,scoring three runs.
Freshman Jason Graham went 2-for-2, recording his first career hit in thesixth with a 400-foot home run over the centerfield wall. He later added adouble in the eighth. A whirlwind in the sixth inning featured three UK ejections, including head coach Keith Madison, pitcher Austin Madison and pitching coach DaronSchoenrock. According to NCAA rules, Austin Madison will not be suspendedfor any future games. The Owls went on to score eleven runs in the inning.
Junior Ben Shaffar came on in releif and redeemed his performance fromFriday night’s loss, going 2.2 innings and allowing only three hits. Sophomore Beau Moore continued to shine at the plate, going 2-for-5 withtwo singles. Moore is now 4-for-9 on the season, and leads all regularswith a .444 batting average, two home runs and six RBI. Sophomore JohnWilson went 5-for-12 in the three-game series with two home runs and four RBI.
Kentucky travels to Charleston, S.C., next weekend, Feb. 19-21, for theFranklin-Life Shootout. The Cats will face The Citadel, Old Dominion andRichmond. Friday’s game is set for 5 p.m.
