SEC Commissioner Roy Kramer has named seven members of the Kentuckybaseball team to the 1999 SEC Baseball Academic Honor Roll. A total of 67student-athletes were named to the list with Florida topping the list with10 student-athletes on the academic roster.
Will Crumbaugh, Andy Green, Patrick Mahan, Jeff Meade, Josh Owens, JoshPaxton, and Justin Sanders were selected from Kentucky. To be eligible forthe award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in terms ofacademic classification and have a 3.0 grade point average for either thepast year (two semesters or three quarters) or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 orhigher for their career. The student-athlete must also have 24 semester or36 quarter hours toward a degree.
Green, the starting second baseman, and Owens, a redshirt pitcher,recorded the highest GPA on the team. Green, a Lexington native, had a 3.97in Finance and Owens, a Maysville, Ky., native, had a 4.00 in Biology,respectively. Paxton recorded a 3.50 GPA in Finance for the year. Theright-handed pitcher from Germantown, Tenn., picked up the win against LSUon Saturday, May 15, in Baton Rouge. Mahan, a pitcher from Lexington, had a3.22 GPA in Sociology. Sanders, a pitcher who has not seen action thisseason, recorded a 3.50 GPA in Political Science. Jeff Meade, the startingshortstop, has a 3.059 GPA in Management, and Crumbaugh, a thirdbaseman/outfielder, rounds out the list with a 3.188 GPA in Management.
The Wildcats (25-30, 13-17 SEC) face the Arkansas Razorbacks (37-19, 22-8SEC) on Wed., May 19, in the opening round of the SEC Tournament inBirmingham, Ala. The game is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. ET and will bebroadcast live on WLXG 1300 AM. The game will also be broadcast on theAlabama Cable Network throughout the state of Alabama.
