Raleigh, N.C. – After having picked up two extra-inning wins in its last three games, the University of Kentucky softball team ran out of magic on Sunday, falling to Eastern Kentucky 1-0 in eight innings in the quarterfinals of the UNC Triangle Classic on Sunday.

After seven regulation innings, EKU began the top of the eighth with a runner on second due to the international tie-break rule. After advancing to second on a sacrifice, the runner scored on a base-hit to right field. UK tried to answer back in the bottom of the eighth. Susan Moore began the inning on second and advanced to third on a Susan Snider sacrifice bunt. However, the Wildcats could not push the tying run across as EKU picked up the 1-0 victory.

UK had won two of its last three games in extra innings, picking up a 2-1 eight-inning win against Radford on Friday and a 4-3 come-from-behind win in 11 innings over Campbell on Saturday. The Wildcats are now 3-1 in extra-inning games this season.

Kentucky continues action next weekend, as the Wildcats travel to Carbondale, Ill., for the Southern Illinois-Carbondale Spring Classic. UK opens the tournament against Northern Illinois on Saturday.
