A three-run first inning was all Kentucky needed as the Wildcats (22-26, 12-13 SEC) defeated the Auburn Tigers, 10-1, in the opening game of a three-game series at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

A three-run blast by Aaron McGlone gave Kentucky an early lead and the Wildcats never looked back. With the round-tripper, McGlone moved into a tie for second place in the SEC with 16 home runs. John Wilson is currently leading the conference with 20 home runs.

Auburn (36-14, 13-12) scored one unearned run in the top of the sixth as Mailon Kent reached on an error by shortstop Vince Harrison. Kent stole second and scored the Tigers only run on Gabe Gross RBI single.

Kentucky responded to the Auburn run as Breck Price and Harrison hit their tenth and fifth home runs of the season, respectively, to add to the UK lead. The bats came to life as the Wildcats won their fifth straight conference game and continued to claw their way into the SEC Tournament.

Junior Nathan Kent threw his fourth complete game of the season and set a career-high by striking out 12 Auburn batters. The former SEC Pitcher of the Week has won four out of his last five s and is now 5-5 on the season.

Kentucky returns to action on Saturday, May 8, at 2 p.m. Junior Ben Shaffar will take the mound for the Cats as Kentucky continues its quest for the SEC Tournament in Birmingham, Ala. The Wildcats have five remaining SEC games and need to finish in first or second place in the Eastern Division to qualify.
