LEXINGTON, Ky. – John Wilson hit his SEC-leading 17th home run of the season, and Josh Paxton picked up his first collegiate hit as the Kentucky Wildcats (16-23) defeated the Morehead State Eagles, 10-3, at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

Morehead (17-19-1) took the early lead, scoring one run on two hits in the top of the first to open the game. But SEC Pitcher of the Week Nathan Kent settled down and held the Eagles to only five hits in seven innings pitched as he picked up his third win of the season and second consecutive victory in as many starts.

The Wildcats played near perfect baseball, connecting solidly with the ball but always directly at the Eagles. UK finally broke through in the sixth inning, scoring five runs on three walks and two hits, including Aaron McGlones 11th round-tripper of the season.

The Kentucky bats were not finished as UK added five more runs in the seventh. Beau Moore doubled to left center to open the inning, and McGlone walked to put runners on first and second with no outs. Power hitter Wilson belted a three-run blast over the left field wall to give UK the 8-1 advantage. Two more men crossed the plate in the inning, and the Wildcats led 10-1.

The Eagles battled in the ninth inning, scoring two runs off relief pitcher Joey King, but UK squelched the rally and took the game, 10-3.

Paxton, a middle reliever, picked up his first collegiate at-bat of his career in the eighth inning. The junior from Germantown, Tenn., smashed a line-drive single to left field, earning his first hit and bringing his lifetime batting average to 1.000.

Kentucky returns to action on Friday, April 23, playing host to the Tennessee Volunteers at Cliff Hagan Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will be televised on Fox Sports South.
