LEXINGTON, Ky.— The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team, the No. 2 seed in the East Region, will face Maryland in the first round of the NCAA Regionals in Blacksburg, Va., Friday.

“We are very excited to be headed to the east regional as the second seed,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “The team is focused on playing hard with great enthusiasm and intensity. I know that we are well prepared and I know that the players are confident in their ability to fight through the regional for a birth in the NCAA finals in South Bend.”

The No. 24 Cats defeated the No. 41 Terps (12-10) last February in a dual match at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center, 6-1. UK holds an overall season record of 14-8 with a 5-8 record in the SEC. “I’m very proud of the season we have had and hope the team is able to experience more great tennis before the season is over,” Guilbeau said.
