LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky softball team will travel to Atlanta, Ga., this weekend to compete in the Georgia State Softball Classic, Feb. 27-28. The Wildcats currently own a record of 4-7.
UK will face Saint Louis (0-4) in the opening round of play on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 9 a.m. This will be the first meeting between the Wildcats and the Billikens. In the second game, UK will take on the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech, who are winless on the year with an 0-4 record. This game marks the first time that UK and TTU have gone head-to-head. The Wildcats wrap up Saturday’s play with a 3:30 p.m. start with Indiana State. The Sycamores have not played this season after compiling a 1998 record of 14-36.
On Sunday, the Wildcats will take on the Buckeyes of Ohio State at 11 a.m. as the two squads face each other for the first time. OSU is 1-5 on the year. Kentucky completes tournament play with a match up with host school Georgia State at 2 p.m. The Lady Panthers are 2-2 this season. “Our goal for the weekend is to be consistent and come ready to play for seven consecutive innings,” UK coach Beth Kirchner said. “The last two weekends have been learning experiences for us and now it is time for us to really put it all together.”
The Wildcats will open their home season next weekend when they host the third annual Kentucky Invitational Tournament, March 6-7, at the UK Soccer-Softball Complex.
