Brincks Hired as Assistant Strength Coach: Scott Brincks, one ofHal Mumme’s former players at Iowa Wesleyan College, has been hired asthe assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Kentucky footballteam. Brincks will assist strength coach Marc Hill in the operation ofthe Nutter Training Center weight room and in the team’s strength andconditioning program.
Brincks was recruited by Mumme at Iowa Wesleyan and played forIWC from 1990-94. He remained at IWC after graduation, serving asassistant football and assistant baseball coach (1994-95), head baseballcoach (1996-98), and was the defensive coordinator and recruitingcoordinator for the 1998 football team.
Brincks also worked in the weight room as the strength coach forthe baseball team from 1996-98 and the assistant strength coach for thefootball team during the 1998 season.
“Knowing what Coach Mumme has done in the past and will do inthe future is exciting and I want to be a part of that,” Brincks said ofhis move to Kentucky. “I wanted to break into the NCAA Division I ranksand this was a great opportunity.”
Brincks is a native of Calmar, Iowa. He attended SouthWinneshiek High School, where he was an all-state performer in footballand baseball and also was a letterman in wrestling and track. Brincks’wife, Karen, was a softball player at Iowa Wesleyan and both aregraduates of the college.
Brincks replaces Brett Brungardt, who has taken the headstrength and conditioning job at UK’s Shively Sports Center. Brungardtwill supervise the weight training of most of UK’s non-revenue sportsteams.
Four-week Summer Session in Progress: The four-week summerschool session began May 11 and goes through June 8. Approximately 25players are in Lexington in order to work out in the weight room, beginsummer jobs, and/or begin taking summer school classes. The eight-weeksummer school session begins in mid-June. Most of the players will bein Lexington during the eight-week period.
Coaches Evaluate Recruiting Data, Prepare for Camp: The Kentuckyfootball coaching staff is evaluating the data gathered during the Mayrecruiting period and preparing for the UK summer camps.

Patterson on National Tackles List: Research by Marc Ryan at theUniversity of Minnesota has generated an unofficial NCAA career tacklerecords listing (tackles are not an official NCAA statistic).
The NCAA Division I-A top 25 career tackles list featurescurrent UK assistant coach Darrell Patterson. Patterson had 544 tacklesfrom 1979-82 as a linebacker at Texas Christian University and remainsthe school’s career tackle leader.
By the way, UK career tackles leader Jim Kovach just missed thecut for the top 25. Kovach played linebacker and had 521 careertackles, just short of the 524 needed to crack the top 25.
