Mumme to Speak at AFQ University: On Friday and Saturday, March 26-27,Coach Hal Mumme will be a guest professor at “AFQ University” in Orlando,Fla. “AFQ University” is a continuing education program for coaches and issponsored by American Football Quarterly magazine. Mumme will teachclasses entitled, “Loosen ‘Em Up and Run, Run, Run: The Running GamePackage of Kentucky’s Air Raid Offense.”
Coaches Wrap Up Preparations for Spring Practice: The Kentucky coachingstaff is completing preparations for spring practice, which begins Mon.March 29 and culminates with the Blue/White Spring Game on Sat. Apr. 24, at3:30 p.m., at Georgetown College.
Players Finish Pre-Spring Workouts: This week is the culmination of theWildcats’ pre-spring strength and conditioning workouts under the guidanceof new strength coach Marc Hill and assistant strength coach BrettBrungardt.
Each player will be tested this week in order to evaluate hisprogress.
In addition, the players are divided into 10 teams each week andparticipate in “Wildcat Games,” a competition that combines fun withvarious conditioning activities. Points are accumulated on a weekly basisand one team will be declared champion on Thurs. March 25. Going into thefinal week of competition, the leading team is captained by sophomorequarterback Dusty Bonner and junior cornerback Eric Kelly.
Commonwealth Stadium Construction Update: Construction crews are erectingstructural steel, pouring concrete on the upper concourses, and erectingwalls for concession stands and restrooms on both ends of the stadium. Inaddition, seating is being installed in the east (Nutter Field House) endzone. This work should continue until approximately mid-April.
Both ends of Commonwealth Stadium are being enclosed. The project willadd about 10,000 seats, bringing capacity to approximately 68,000. Up to$27.6 million may be spent on the stadium expansion, which is expected tobe ready for the opening of the 1999 season.
Watch the Stadium Construction: Fans may view photographs of the stadiumexpansion on the internet site www.uky.edu/stadium. A camera has beenmounted in the press box and is pointed toward the west (NicholasvilleRoad) end zone. Photographs are updated every five minutes.
