TUSCALOOSA, ALA. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team (15-7, 6-3 SEC) rolled over the Crimson Tide of Alabama, Sunday, in three games, 15-5, 15-12, 15-12.
UK started strong, taking game one with solid offensive play, including an 11-0 run. The Crimson Tide battled point-for-point in games two and three, but the Wildcats took both sets by identical scores of 15-12.
Kentucky dominated the match, posting a .323 team hitting percentage. Senior Jenny Muzzey recorded 15 kills, three block assists and a .462 hitting percentage. The performance moved the 6’0″ middle blocker into sole possession of second-place on the UK career block assists list. Sophomore Stephenie Taylor had a big night for the Wildcats with 10 kills and a .529 hitting percentage.
“Our mental execution was superb,” UK coach Jona Braden said. “We stayed so focused and we were able to keep the pressure on them. This was another great overall team effort.
Alabama (11-12, 1-8 SEC) was led by junior Monica Morales with 15 kills, six digs and a .478 hitting percentage, while freshman Jen Wagner tallied 10 kills and nine digs in the losing effort.
The Wildcats return to action Friday, Oct. 30, when they travel to Knoxville to face SEC rival Tennessee. Kentucky returns home on Sunday, Nov. 1, to battle the same UT Lady Vols in UK’s Memorial Coliseum at 2 p.m.
