LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky swimming and diving teams will recognize their seniors Saturday when they welcome the University of Louisville to close out their home dual-meet schedule for 2012-13 at 12:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Aquatic Center.
Kentucky swimmers have been training hard all season long with their eyes fixed on their final meets of the season heading into their postseason meets. After falling to LSU in their first meet after the holiday break, the Wildcats are looking for their best performances of the season on Senior Day.
“In addition to Senior Day honors, it is going to be a very challenging meet for us,” said swimming head coach Gary Conelly. “Louisville has one of their best ever men’s and women’s team. It is going to take a great effort on our part from diving to the individual events to the relays.
“I think you will see a lot of our season-best swims and diving scores along with possibly some career-best times.”
Louisville brings the No. 14 men’s team and No. 17 women’s team according to the CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Coaches poll to Lexington this weekend.
The diving team will get back on the boards against a strong opponent in Louisville for the first time since the Tennessee Diving Invitational in early January.
“It has been three weeks since our last competition and we are looking forward to competing,” said UK diving head coach Ted Hautau. “The divers have been training heavy volume since our last invitational and it will be nice to switch gears into competition mode. Louisville is good and deep so it will be a good test for us.”
Kentucky’s top male diver junior Greg Ferrucci has an injured thumb and has not been cleared to dive head first. The injury, however, will not keep him from competing this weekend.
“He’s going to have some fun and try to put together a list of feet-first entry dives on the 1-meter and is out for the 3-meter board,” said Hautau. “We’ve got plenty of depth on the men’s side so we shouldn’t miss a beat. The women are all healthy and looking forward to the challenge of a good Louisville squad.”
Diving events will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the men performing on the 1-meter and the women on the 3-meter spring board. Senior Day festivities will begin shortly thereafter preceding the swimming and final diving events.
Free parking for Saturday’s meet will be available at Parking Structure No. 7 on the corner of Sports Center Drive and Complex Drive. No passes or vouchers are necessary.
