LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 2nd-ranked Florida women’s tennis team was too much for Kentucky, defeating the No. 47 Wildcats 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Complex.
Florida jumped out to an early lead by winning the closely contested doubles point. Alexandra Cercone and Olivia Janowicz clinched the first doubles win for Florida, winning the No. 2 doubles match 8-4. Kentucky responded on court three as Khristina Blajkevitch and Jessica Stiles took the match 8-4 to leave court one to decide the doubles point.
Court one was tied 6-6 when court three wrapped up but Florida’s Sofie Oyen and Lauren Embree won the next two games to take the court 8-6 and clinch the doubles point for the Gators.
Following doubles play, Cercone quickly added another point for Florida, winning the No. 3 singles point 6-2, 6-0.
The Gators went up 3-0 following the result on court two, as Florida’s Sofie Oyen defeated Stiles 6-2, 6-2.
The match was clinched on court four when Brianna Morgan defeated junior Caitlin McGraw 6-1, 6-2 to earn Florida its fourth point.
The match was called at decision.
Before the match was abandoned, 22nd-ranked Nadia Ravita was giving No. 1 Lauren Embree a run for her money on court one. Embree took the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3), and the second set was 1-1 when the match was called.
Kentucky will return to action for the final match of the regular season on Sunday, hosting South Carolina at noon. Before the match, Kentucky will honor Jessica Stiles and Khristina Blajkevitch as it will be their final home match as a Wildcat.
