 EAVANSTON, Ill.- The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team had a successful day at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Northwestern University.

 Kirsten Lewis won a tough battle against Northwestern’s Brooke Rischbieth. In her first match of the fall season, Lewis pulled through with the win, 6-3, 6-5. Lewis won the second round singles against Jarret Fisher from Depaul.

 Stephanie Fox had little struggle in defeating Maja Vujic from the University of Minnesota. Fox topped the Golden Gopher 6-2 in both matches.  In the second round of singles, Fox beat Abbi Melrose of Oklahoma 6-0, 6-4. Fox is now 2-0 in singles to begin her fall season.

 CeCe Witten fell in both the first and third singles round. In her first singles match of the season, Witten lost to UIC’s Kathryn Sharples. In the second round, she fell to NC State’s Christy Snipes.  

 Aldila Sutjiadi was defeated in her first match of her college career but came back to defeat Katherine Flanigan of Princeton in the second round.

 Grace Trimball and Edmée Morin-Kougoucheff both lost in their first match of the season. Trimball will play again in the third round. Morin-Kougoucheff withdrew in the second round because of an injury but is expected to participate in the third round.

The Wildcats rocked the doubles competition. Sutjiadi and Morin-Kougoucheff took down a duo from Northwestern with no hesitation. The UK tandem defeated Alicia Barnett and Lok Sze Leung 6-1.

In their first match together since the 2011-12 season, Fox and Witten narrowly escaped their match against Aria Lambert and Kelsey Frechette from Minnesota. Fox and Witten will progress to the second round following their 6-5 win.
