PALO ALTO, Calif. – The 21st-ranked University of Kentucky women’s golf team completed the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate Saturday afternoon with a nine-over par, 293, to put the Wildcats in a tie for ninth place at 16-over par through two days.
Second-ranked USC sits atop the standings at 20-over par, 548, while No. 1 UCLA (-12), No. 19 Washington (-2), No. 9 Stanford (E) and No. 12 Pepperdine (+1) complete the top five. USC’s Sophia Popov leads all players at nine-under par (133).
Rounding out the rest of the team standings were Oregon (+8), No. 20 Northwestern (+10), California (+13), No. 11 Vanderbilt (+16), No. 21 UK (+16), UC Davis (+17), No. 24 Auburn (+21), San Jose State (+23), Georgia (+26), Oregon State (+30) and Washington State (+39).
“We didn’t play as well as we wanted to today,” said Kentucky head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “I am confident that the girls will be ready to make up some ground tomorrow.”
The Wildcats were paced by sophomore Cylia Damerau’s one-under par, 70, on Saturday. Through two days Damerau is tied for 18th at even-par (142). The Cham, Switzerland, native leads all UK players with nine birdies through two rounds after recording five on the day.
Senior Liz Breed continues to play steady golf after a one-over par, 72, in the second round. She sits at three-over par, 145, for the tournament, which places her in a tie for 33rd. Freshman Haley Mills posted a six-over par, 77, on Saturday to put her at seven-over par overall, which places her in a tie for 54th.
After a first round score of seven-over par, 78, sophomore Sarah Harris bounced back to shoot a second round score of three-over par, 74. At 10-over par overall, Harris is tied for 67th. Freshman Alessandra Walker turned in a scorecard of nine-over par, 80, to give her an overall score of 12-over par (154). Walker is tied for 76th.
Freshman Megan Kinney, who is playing as an individual, improved by two strokes from the first round to post an eight-over par, 79 on Saturday. Kinney is tied for 85th at 18-over par for the tournament.
The teams return to the course for second round action Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. ET.
