LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fresh off a two-goal win at Marshall on Wednesday, the Kentucky men’s soccer team will host Florida Atlantic in the final home conference game of the year, with kickoff on Sunday set for 4 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex.
Kentucky (5-8-2, 2-3-2 Conference USA) is coming off a 2-0 win at Marshall on Wednesday night in Huntington, W.Va., getting goals from seniors Brad Doliner and Tyler Riggs. The tilt with FAU on Sunday will serve as senior day for four UK standouts, including Doliner, Riggs, Steven Perinovic and Jack Van Arsdale. The Wildcats will host FAU Sunday, before completing their home 2013 schedule with Wright State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
The Wildcats got the game-winning goal at Marshall on Wednesday from Riggs, with Doliner adding a penalty kick tally late in the contest. Sophomore goalkeeper Callum Irving saved five shots – including four in a scoreless first half – for his league-leading fifth shutout of the year.
Kentucky has finished 16 goals in its first 15 games, allowing 19 tallies and owning advantages in shots (231-150) and corner kicks (88-67), with a 1.22 goals-against average. The Wildcats have been led in scoring by Doliner, who has five goals and one assist. Sophomore midfielder Isak Krogstad has four goals and two assists, with Riggs owning two goals. Freshmen Napo Matsoso and Sam Miller each have a goal and two assists, with sophomore Jacob Scearce adding a goal and two assists. Junior Justin Laird leads the team with four goals, with freshmen Kaelon Fox and Charlie Reymann each sporting a goal and an assist.
Irving leads the conference with his five shutouts, owning a 1.13 goals-against average in 11 games, saving 32 shots. Van Arsdale, a native of Richmond, Va., has a 1.50 goals-against average in four starts, with five saves.
FAU (6-5-2, 1-5-1 C-USA) enters the game with the Wildcats having lost four consecutive games after opening up the year with a 4-0-1 record. FAU has 19 goals in 13 games in 2013, allowing 25 goals and losing the battle for shots (104-166) and corners (52-87).
FAU has been led individually by Ryan Price, who has six goals and three assists. Deniz Bozkurt has three goals and three assists, with Jason Fitzgerald owning three goals. Ronald Garcia has a goal and an assist, with Jason Garcia owning a goal. Daniel Montoya has two goals and two assists, with Ramon Whitaker charting a goal. In goal, Theo Jamiloux has a 1.82 goals-against average in 13 games, surrendering 25 goals with three shutouts.
Kentucky will be meeting FAU for the first time in program history, as Florida Atlantic is in its first year in C-USA.
UK Soccer Complex Game Day
Due to the ongoing construction of the $7.7 million renovations to the UK Soccer Complex, Kentucky soccer fans will experience some slight modifications to the game day experience during the 2013 season.
Tickets
All fans will be admitted into all games for the 2013 season for free for the duration of the season. Fans will also be allowed to re-enter the complex after initial entrance.
Seating
Seating will be all general admission for the season and seating will all be located behind the team benches on the grassy area opposite the construction site. Fans will be invited to bring their own chairs and blankets to enjoy the action. There will also be seating located behind the goals on each side of the facility, similar to years past.
Construction
Construction will be ongoing for most of the season, and the grandstand side of the facility will be shut down for the entirety of the season. Only credentialed members of the UK staff will be allowed over to that side of the complex.
Facility Entrance
All fans will be entering and exiting the facility using the existing student entrance located between the game field and the practice field. The existing entrance main gate will be shut down and fans will not be able to enter the facility through those gates, as they will be closed during the construction process.
Parking
Fans will be able to park in one of three locations for the season. The first-arriving fans will receive access to the gravel lot located directly across the main gate. Once that lot is filled, fans will be directed to park in the lot that borders the practice field off of College Way. In addition, similar to softball parking in 2013, there will be parking on the west side of College Way in the grassy area between the soccer/softball complex and Commonwealth Stadium. When there are no further available spots, fans will park in select lots of Commonwealth Stadium, which is in walking distance of the UK Soccer Complex. Parking lots will open three hours prior to game time. Handicapped parking will remain as seasons past, with parking available near the main gate in the paved lot.
