HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Through 36 holes of play at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, the University of Kentucky women’s golf team is tied for 13th in the team standings with a score of 38-over par, 606. Final round action begins Sunday morning at 8 a.m. ET.
The Wildcats posted a score of 15-over par, 299 on Saturday, following a 23-over par, 307 in the first round. No. 3 Duke sits atop the team standings at seven-over par, 575, while No. 14 Vanderbilt (+15), No. 13 South Carolina (+22), North Carolina (+24) and No. 21 LSU (+25) complete the top five. Alabama’s Stephanie Meadow leads all players at three-under par, 139.
Rounding out the rest of the team standings were No. 5 Oklahoma (+26), No. 4 Arkansas (+29), Virginia (+31), No. 8 Alabama (+31), No. 7 Stanford (+32), No. 20 Wake Forest (+33), Tennessee (+36), No. 25 Auburn (+38), Furman (+42), No. 6 Arizona State (+42) and Georgia (+44).
“Today was a little better for us,” said Kentucky head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “This golf course is still getting the better of us, but all the girls stayed strong and fought back really well. We are getting some good practice in after the round and I am confident that we will be ready to play tomorrow.”
Freshman Haley Mills continues to lead the Wildcats after posting her second straight round of two-over par, 73. For the tournament, Mills is tied for 13th at four-over par, 146. Mills finished the day with birdies on two of the last three holes.
Sitting in a tie for 40th is sophomore Cylia Damerau at nine-over par, 151. Damerau posted a four-over par, 75, on Saturday. Two strokes back from Damerau is sophomore Sarah Harris at 11-over par, 153. Harris is tied for 52nd after a second round score of five-over par, 76.
Rounding out the UK lineup were freshman Alessandra Walker and senior Liz Breed who are tied for 65th and 76th, respectively. Walker is 14-over par, 156, after posting a second round score of four-over par, 75. Breed is at 16-over par, 158, following a five-over par, 76, on day two.
