LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky baseball student-athletes Austin Cousino, Ryne Combs and Matt Reida have been selected Capital One Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors Association, it was announced.
With the all-district selection by CoSIDA, Cousino, Combs and Reida are now eligible for academic All-America accolades. Cousino owns a 3.32 GPA as a community and leadership development major, Combs a 3.82 GPA as a business administration in management major and Reida sports a 3.68 GPA while earning his bachelors of arts in communication major.
A native of Dublin, Ohio, Cousino is in his third season as UK’s everyday centerfielder. A preseason All-America selection, the 2012 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year, Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner, Cousino has started 163 of UK’s 165 games in his three-year career, batting .296 (198-for-668), with 43 doubles, six triples, 18 homers and 96 RBI, stealing 44-of-46 bases and sporting a .460 slugging and a .387 on-base percentage. In 2014, Cousino has hit .317 with 11 doubles, three triples, three homers and 28 RBI, stealing 15-of-15 bases.
Combs, a product of Lexington’s Bryan Station High School, has been a key reliever and midweek starter for UK the last two seasons. The 2012 Kentucky High School Mr. Baseball, has appeared in 30 games in his career, making six starts, with a 1-2 record and a 4.53 ERA. Combs has worked 49.2 innings in his career, striking out 20. He was the first reliever called on in the season opener as the Wildcats tried to protect a lead vs. No. 1 Virginia, working into the ninth inning to seal UK’s win.
A native of Russiaville, Ind., Reida has played in 199 games in his four-year career, serving as UK’s everyday shortstop for the last three seasons. Reida is in the midst of a career year in 2014, hitting .346 with five doubles, three homers and 26 RBI, stealing five bases and owning career highs in slugging (.351), and on-base percentage (.354). In his career, Reida has started 184 games and hit .239 as a slick-fielding dynamo up the middle. Reida has 22 doubles, two triples, five homers and 74 RBI in his career, stealing 15 bases.
Kentucky (28-19, 10-14 SEC) returns to action on Friday in its final home series of the season, hosting Auburn. The series will open on Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET, resume on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET and conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
