MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The sixth-ranked Kentucky rifle team continued its winning ways when it squeaked out a 4670-4654 win at ninth-ranked Memphis on Sunday.
Kentucky outscored Memphis 2361-2353 in air rifle to seal the win, with Elijah Ellis leading UK with a 594. Heather Kirby followed with a 591.
Kentucky entered air rifle nursing a small lead, as the Wildcats took some time to get settled with competition having begun at 7 a.m. a day after UK competed in Oxford, Miss. UK recorded a smallbore score of 2309 compared with Memphis’ 2301.
Connor Davis led UK in smallbore with a 587/600 followed by Heather Kirby with 579.
With the win, Kentucky improved to 9-1 this season. The Wildcats are 5-0 in Great American Rifle Conference competition.
Jonathan Pinkel and Connor Davis led the Wildcats in smallbore with scores of 585. Heather Kirby posted a 594 in air rifle.
Kentucky scored its season high in a win over No. 17 Ole Miss by a margin of 4688-4580 on Saturday at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center in Oxford, Mississippi.
