FAYETTEVILLE, Ark., and BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Kenyattia Hackworth won her sections of the long jump as did Lou Styles in the mile to lead the Kentucky track and field teams on Friday at the Tyson Invitational hosted by Arkansas.
Hackworth jumped to the No. 8 long jump mark in the NCAA this season, 20-feet, 10¾ inches / 6.37 meters to win the open section of the long jump. Sha’Keela Saunders, who ranks No. 2 in the nation in the long jump, placed third in the invitational long jump with a mark of 21’3.5”/6.49m.
Styles, competing in the unseeded sections of the mile, won with a four-second PR time of 4:05.54, coasting toward the finish line in the final 30 meters to win his heat by six seconds.
Both Leah Nugent and Keilah Tyson advanced through prelims and semifinals and into the final of the 60-meter hurdles and 60m dash respectively.
Tyson ran a season best of 7.36 in the final to finish sixth. The time was .02 seconds off her personal best, set during her freshman season.
Nugent ran a season best of 8.22 in the prelims and won her heat in the semifinals to make the final, where she finished sixth.
Rebecca Famurewa threw 70’10.5″/21.60m to place third in the stacked weight throw. The mark was one centimeter short of her school-record, which ranks No. 6 in the nation.
Terence Boyd placed seventh in the Tyson Invitational open long jump with a mark of 24’2.5″/7.38m.
Nick Anderson ran 7.99 in the prelims of the 60h, but did not advance past the semifinal.
Michelle McKinney ran a season-best 800m time of 2:10.32 to win her heat at Tyson. Ian Jones ran a season best 800m time of 1:52.25, finishing 12th overall and second in his heat.
Kentucky’s top vertical jumpers and multi-eventers competed at Indiana’s Hoosier Hills Invitational.
Justin Kretchmer tied his season best to finish second in the Hoosier Hills high jump. Top clearance at 6’10.75″/2.10m
Middle distance standout Keffri Neal, undefeated in 2015 and the defending SEC 800m Champion, will debut in the mile on the oversized track at the Iowa State Classic on Saturday at 2:50 p.m. ET.
The Tyson Invitational will be broadcast on SEC Network+ on Saturday. The Iowa State Classic will be broadcast via Flotrack.com.
