MOBILE, Ala. – Led by David Snyder and Tyler `Chip’ McDaniel’s 1-under par second rounds, the Kentucky men’s golf team rallied to move into a tie for 11th place on the opening day of action at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course on Monday.
Snyder leads all Wildcat performers as the junior sits in a tie for 18th overall following two rounds of play on the par-72 course. Snyder shot a 76 (+4) over the opening 18 holes before totaling a 1-under (71) during round two. The Somerset, Ky., native had five birdies in the second round of play to emerge into the top 20 of the leaderboard.
McDaniel also fired a 1-under (71) in the second round of play. UK’s freshman concluded the day in a tie for 47th. Four birdies highlighted his under-par second round.
Freshman Cooper Musselman and senior Will Bishop both sit in a tie for 53rd through two rounds. Junior Todd McDaniel is tied for 64th following two consistent rounds of 79.
The Wildcats are tied for 11th overall and are seeking their fifth-consecutive top-10 finish of the 2014-15 season. UK is a mere two shots back of ninth-place finishers Southern Miss and Davidson. The host team, South Alabama, leads the tournament by one stroke over Auburn.
Play will get resume at the par-72, 7,160-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com throughout the course of action.
In addition to UK’s squad of five players competing at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, five more are competing on the par-71 Magnolia Grove course as a part of the USA Individual Tournament.
Freshman Christian DiMarco leads the Wildcats in that tournament with a 10th place showing through two rounds of play. A second round 4-over par (75) helped the Longwood, Fla., native surge up the leaderboard in his first collegiate action.
Sophomore Stephen Stallings sits in a tie for 13th which included an opening round 75.
Junior Harrison Greenberry and freshman Chris Meuth are tied for 19th overall. Greenberry had a second round 74, while Meuth tallied a 76 in round two. Meuth is also competing in his first collegiate tournament. Sophomore Hager Collins is tied for 28th.
