BATON ROUGE, La. – Returning to a tournament where the Wildcats posted a top-three finish last season, the Kentucky women’s golf team travels to Louisiana this week for the LSU Tiger Golf Classic.
UK has competed against some of the best competition during the spring portion of its schedule, and that theme won’t change this week for the LSU Tiger Golf Classic. Four of the nation’s top 25 teams are in this year’s field, including No. 6 LSU and No. 10 Wake Forest, and nine teams are in the top 50.
All told, 16 teams will compete for the LSU Tiger Golf Classic championship, which begins on Friday with an 8:30 a.m. start and ends Sunday at the beautiful University Club, which was recently redesigned by PGA major champion David Toms.
Head coach Golda Johansson Borst will go with sophomores Haley Mills and Ale Walker, junior Sarah Harris, freshman Grace Rose and sophomore Megan Kinney for this week’s tournament.
The Wildcats are coming off a 16th-place finish at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, held March 6-8 in Hilton Head, S.C. Harris paced Kentucky that weekend with an 11-over-par score of 224 to finish in a tie for 28th place. Only two individuals in the entire field finished under par.
Mills, whose seven under-par rounds lead the team, will look to return to her usual strong form after a 47th-place finish at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
For Kinney, it will be her first appearance in a tournament since the Windy City Classic in the beginning of October.
Led by Mills, the Wildcats posted a third-place finish at last year’s LSU Tiger Golf Classic, finishing behind only Arkansas and UCF. Arkansas, winner of the last two classics, is not a part of the field this season.
Mills finished in seventh place in the 2014 edition of the LSU Tiger Golf Classic with a four-over-par 220. Walker came in 32nd and Kinney placed 65th.
The tournament will consist of three 18-hole rounds at the University Club, which is set up at 6,251 yards and par 72. The course figures to be tough again, as no team finished under par in last year’s field.

Kentucky’s regular season is quickly winding down. Following the LSU Tiger Golf Classic, UK will compete in the Bryan Park Intercollegiate from April 3-5 before heading to the SEC Championship, held April 17-19.
