Azhani Tealer Named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week
LEXINGTON, Ky.– Azhani Tealer was named the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Tealer had a new career-high 10 blocks in Kentucky’s win over Mississippi State, setting her new career best to go along with 12 kills in her first-career double-double. Tealer also had 11 kills vs. Alabama on .462 hitting, as she’s now recorded six matches in a row with 10+ kills.
Tealer’s nine block assists were a new career high vs. Mississippi State, as well, as she added in a solo stuff to get into double digits for the first time in her career. Tealer’s four digs vs. Alabama were also a new career high, as she set new career high’s this week in the two main defensive categories.
Kentucky’s road swing through the deep south continues this week as it faces LSU on Thursday and Friday nights in Baton Rouge. The Wildcats and Tigers play at 8 p.m. ET Thursday night on the SEC Network+ before Friday night’s match at 9 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
This is Tealer’s second SEC honor this season. She was a second team AVCA All-American in 2020 and also All-SEC last year.
