BATON ROUGE, La. — The Kentucky women’s golf team wrapped up the final round of the LSU Tiger Golf Classic on Sunday. Once again led by sophomore Haley Mills, the Wildcats fired a 25-over-par 313 to put them in 13th place overall with a total score of 935 (71-over-par).

“This was a disappointing week for us,” head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “We let the golf course get the better of us and we didn’t do a good enough job around the greens. We have several more opportunities this season to play some great golf and we need this team to step up and compete.”

Mills fired a two-under-par 70 on the final day of the competition, capturing her team-high eighth under-par round of the season and the second-best score of the day behind Mississippi State’s Rica Tse, who finished at three-under-par on Sunday and lost the individual championship in a playoff.

Mills finished with three birdies in seven holes and four birdies overall to climb 17 spots on the leaderboard from Saturday and finish in a tie for 16th place with a total score of 224 (eight-over par). It was her team-leading fifth top-20 finish of the season.

Freshman Grace Rose posted a career-high finish with a tie for 44th, her second finish inside the top 50 this season after matching her score of 80 on the first day of competition. Rose finished at 17-over-par overall for the tournament.

Junior Sarah Harris, who recorded Kentucky’s best score on Friday with an opening round four-over par, was 11-over par on Sunday and finished in a tie for 60th at 23-over-par. Sophomore Ale Walker finished in a tie for 77th place at 29-over par and sophomore Megan Kinney finished in 84th place at 35-over par.

Host team and sixth-ranked LSU came out victorious. The Tigers finished ahead of Southeastern Conference foe and No. 11 Mississippi State (20-over par) by five shots at 15-over-par. TCU (31-over par), Tulane (33-over par), and No. 10 Wake Forest (43-over par) rounded out the top five.

The Wildcats’ next tournament will be this coming weekend on April 3-5 at the Bryan Park Intercollegiate in Greensboro, N.C. It will be Kentucky’s last tournament before the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Ala., in mid-April.
