GASTONIA, N.C. – Freshman Cooper Musselman finished in a tie for first place after combining for a 7-under par score through the first two rounds of action at the Gary Koch Invitational to lead the Kentucky men’s golf team to a third place showing heading into the final round of play.
Musselman carded a 3-under par, 69, during the opening round of play and then followed with a 4-under par, 68, in the second round of action. It’s the best start to a tournament for the first-year player since the team’s opening tournament of the 2014-15 season. The 68 marked the lowest round of Musselman’s career.
The Wildcats garnered a third place finish through the first 36 holes after a team total of 4-under par. The field consists of two top five teams, which includes No. 1 Florida State and No. 4 Auburn. The top-ranked Seminoles lead the field with a score of 15-under par, followed by Auburn with a 6-under par. Kentucky sits in third followed by Charlotte which is close behind with a score of 2-under par. Western Carolina rounds out the top five on the team leaderboard.
In addition to Musselman, junior David Snyder got off to another impressive start. Snyder ended the two rounds even-par on the day after rallying with a 4-under, 68, in the second round. Snyder is currently tied for 14th going into Tuesday’s final round. Snyder has earned a top 20 finish in each spring event in 2015.
Sophomore Stephen Stallings is sitting at 1-over par through two rounds and is currently in a tie for 18th overall.
