UK Track & Field Set for Final Regular-Season Road Trips
April 22, 2015
LEXINGTON, Ky. — With two weeks remaining before the start of the outdoor postseason, and one week before hosting the Kentucky Relays, the Kentucky track and field teams will break up into discrete groups and travel to five meets in four parts of the country this weekend.
Kentucky’s top throwers will travel to Southern California for two meets. On Thursday they will compete at the Olympic Training Center Elite Meet in Chula Vista, California beginning at 1 p.m. ET. Live results from that meet are available here.
Friday and Saturday those throwers will ply their trades at the University of California-San Diego’s Triton Invitational. The top throwers in the nation annually gather at the Triton Invitational in hopes of taking advantage of the strong Pacific winds that often blow on the UCSD campus.
A group of seven men’s distance runners will take the track at Franklin Field in Philadelphia for the distance carnival portion of the portion of 121st running of the Penn Relays on Thursday evening.
Kentucky’s first event at the Penn Relays on Thursday will be the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at 7:30 p.m. Kentucky also has runners entered in the 5k and 10k.
The Penn Relays will be streamed live as part of the FloPro subscription service. Live results are available at http://pennrelaysonline.com.
The largest and most diverse group of Wildcats in terms of events will travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on Friday. That meet will mark the second time UK has competed at Florida this season, having also taken part in the Florida Relays earlier this month.
Six athletes will run at the Bellarmine Classic in Louisville on Saturday.
