Wildcats to Begin NCAA Regional Tourney Thursday

May 13, 2015

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshman Tyler `Chip’ McDaniel and junior David Snyder will tee off on Thursday to begin their quest for a bid as an individual to the NCAA Championships. UK’s two players are among 10 individuals competing at the Lubbock Regional hosted by Texas Tech May 14-16. Kentucky’s duo will officially tee off at 10 a.m. CT.

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 14-16. Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

The finals will be conducted May 29-June 3 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida. The University of South Florida is the host institution for the 2015 championships.

Snyder and McDaniel will compete at The Rawls Course. Par has been set at 71 and the course will play at 7,349 yards.

Texas Tech Alumnus Jerry S. Rawls made it possible for the University to have its own territory by donating $8.6 million toward the total cost of approximately $14-15 million in 2001 and the course was then named for him.

Completed in September 2003, the 270-acre parcel, located at the northernmost point of the campus proper, features an 18-hole championship-level course with a 60-acre driving range as well as pitching and chipping areas. The 7,100-yard golf course has very undulating fairways, beautiful bent grass greens and many deep bunkers. Dedicated facilities for both golf teams existing, including collegiate-exclusive pitching and chipping areas and an indoor facility with three hitting bays, one each for the men and the women, both featuring the best video technology possible.

Snyder will compete in his second NCAA Tournament after being a part of the starting lineup during UK’s run in 2014 that resulted in an 18th overall finish at the NCAA Championships.

The junior from Somerset, Ky., finished the season with a team-leading 72.0 stroke average. He finished with eight total top-20 finishes including a win at the UK Bluegrass Invitational. Snyder also logged three top-five finishes including a 9-under par fourth place finish at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.

McDaniel tied Snyder with a stroke average of 72.0 during his first season in competition for the Wildcats. He was an All-Southeastern Conference Freshman team selection after notching six top-20 finishes on the season including placing 11th in his first-ever SEC Championship. McDaniel’s highlight of the season was claiming in the individual title at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational to conclude fall competition.
