Six Divers Set for Miami Invitational

Six Divers Set for Miami Invitational

by Cami Moore

OXFORD, Ohio – The University of Kentucky divers are north bound for the weekend, competing separate from the swim team at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational in Oxford, Ohio, from Dec. 5-7.

Emma Dellmore, Cara Hudson, Caiden Lake, Caroline McCleary, Morgan Southall and Danny Zhang will represent Kentucky at the 26th annual invite. Sophomore Kyndal Knight, the reigning Southeastern Conference co-Female Freshman Diver of the Year, will sit this one out in preparation for USA Diving Winter Nationals in mid-December.

The 12-team field includes a mix of universities and prominent diving clubs – Ball State, Pennsylvania, Bowling Green, Kentucky, IUPUO, Ohio, Toledo, Ripfest Club, Guangdong Diving, Forest City Diving Club, Cincinnati Diving Academy and Indiana International School of Diving.

The field will compete on all three disciplines this week, including 1-meter diving, 3-meter diving and platform. The schedule is as follows:

Thursday, Dec. 5
Platform
Finals 3 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 6
Women’s 3-meter, men’s 1-meter
Preliminaries 1 p.m.
Finals 6 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 7
Women’s 1-meter, men’s 3-meter
Preliminaries noon
Finals 5 p.m.

The Wildcats are still shaking off the dust on the tower, after competing on the discipline for the first time this season at the Ohio State Fall Invite (Nov. 23). It also marked Zhang’s and Southall’s collegiate debuts on platform.

Zhang, a sophomore, recorded 332.45 points through six dives on the discipline to force a fourth-place finish. Notably, it marked the seventh-best performance recorded on platform in  Kentucky history. Freshman Southall has shown steady improvement since the start of the season, as the newcomer recorded a season high on the 3-meter springboard at the Ohio State Fall Invite, her last time out, producing a mark of 295.35.

Despite coming off horrific injuries to both of her heels last December, Dellmore is shaping into form in her final season of collegiate competition. The senior has been the Wildcats’ second-best performer on 1-meter this season, recording a season-high 271 in October.

Live scoring will be available here.
