EUGENE, Oregon – Kentucky’s Jake Most was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s (USTFCCCA) Excellence in Communications Award winner for the 2015 NCAA Division I Track and Field season. This is the first such honor of Most’s career, and he is just the second recipient of the award by the USTFCCCA.
“Jake is well-deserving of this honor,” said Jason Schlafer, UK Executive Associate Athletics Director, who also is the primary administrator for the Wildcat track and field/cross country teams. “Jake’s passion for the sport, combined with his diligence and innovations, have culminated with an outstanding performance in publicizing and promoting our program.”
Most is in his third year at Kentucky. He oversees media relations for the track and field and cross country teams in addition to men’s soccer and rifle. He also assists with publicity work for the men’s basketball team.
The USTFCCCA cited exceptional efforts in the promotion of Kentucky’s Rod McCravy Memorial track event as well as his cutting-edge usage of social media as predominant motives for the honor. Most crafted a two-part preview for the McCravy Memorial that not only highlighted the Kentucky programs, but he covered every highly rated team and every returning All-American who would participate in the event.
Most has been instrumental in the development of various social media platforms at Kentucky. He consistently finds new ways to utilize various tools to promote his sports and the entire Kentucky athletics department. He was a leader in implementing infographics and Instagram and Vine videos for his programs.
The 2012 LSU graduate also worked as the media coordinator at multiple Southeastern Conference Championship meets during the last three years.
“Jake’s leadership, unique vision and rock-solid work ethic led the communications efforts at those championship events to be among the best in the decades-long history of the SEC Championship,” SEC assistant director of communications Sean Cartell said.
Most is continuing his efforts with the UK track and field teams as they participate in the NCAA Championships this week in Eugene, Oregon.
