Kentucky Women’s Swimming & Diving Ranked in CSCAA Preseason Rankings
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s swimming and diving team is ranked No. 19 in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America preseason rankings, it was announced on Friday. The UK men’s team received eight votes, the second most among the teams receiving votes in the men’s preseason poll.
Last season, the women’s squad finished third at the Southeastern Conference Championships on 927.5 points. The finish tied a program high at the league meet, a feat the team has accomplished just three times since the meet established in 1984-85. Remarkably, two of those third-place finishes have come in the team’s last three appearances at the league meet in 2017 and 2019.
During last season’s league meet, the Kentucky women collected one gold medal, three silver medals and 10 bronze medals. Four of the six medalists are returning letterwinners for the 2019-20 season.
Following the league meet, 11 women punched tickets to compete as individuals at the 2019 NCAA Championships. There, the team earned 100.5 points to finish in 15th. It marked the second-highest points the program has earned in all-time appearances at the national meet.
The Kentucky women’s team collected 19 All-America honors, including one bronze medal. Five of the seven 2019 All-Americans are returning athletes this season.
The 2019 CSCAA preseason rankings do not reflect the results from Kentucky’s tri-meet versus Indiana and Notre Dame, hosted on Oct. 9. Therefore, the No. 19 UK women upset No. 9 Indiana (161-139) and No. 16 Notre Dame (184.5-115.5). On the men’s side, the RV UK men upset No. 12 Notre Dame (176-124).
