UK Men’s Soccer Returns Home for Battle with FAU
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After opening Conference USA play with its second consecutive double-overtime contest in a 1-1 tie at No. 12 Charlotte last Sunday, No. 21 Kentucky (2-1-2) is set to return home for a battle with Florida Atlantic (2-2, 0-1 C-USA) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Wildcats were led last weekend by 2019 C-USA Preseason Co-Offensive Player of the Year Kalil ElMedkhar, who recorded the first goal of his junior campaign off an assist from sophomore forward Daniel Evans. ElMedkhar’s first score is complemented by two assists on the season after recording 11 goals and 10 assists a year ago. Evans leads the team with two goals and two assists in 2019.
Saturday marks Florida Atlantic’s first road test, coming off a 6-1 loss to FIU in both teams’ league opener last Saturday. Before falling to the Panthers, the Owls’ 1-0 win over No. 17 James Madison and 2-1 victory over Jacksonville separated by a 3-0 loss to Louisville marked the program’s best start to a season since 2013.
Kentucky has never fallen to Florida Atlantic, holding a 6-0-1 advantage in the all-time head-to-head series. The Cats haven’t allowed more than one goal in any particular matchup, leading the overall differential 20-3. Kentucky won a 2-1 match in Boca Raton, Florida, last season.
